The ruling YSR Congress party led by chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has ruled out the possibility of holding early elections in Andhra Pradesh, but it is said to be still assessing the pros and cons, if there is any such compulsion.
While YSRC general secretary and state government advisor Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy said there is no question of going for early elections in the state, there were reports that Jagan on Friday had closeted with the team members of the Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC) about how to go about if such a situation arises.
Sajjala said the talk of early polls was the creation of some media channels to confuse people.
“The people are extremely happy with the Jagan government and there is a tremendous response to his welfare programmes. When everything is fine, why should we go to early polls?” he asked.
Sources, however, said Jagan is under pressure from the Centre to go for early elections along with other states where elections are scheduled in December/January.
“In such a scenario, the chief minister is taking suggestions from the I-PAC team on the advantages and disadvantages of going to early elections,” sources said.
He also reportedly asked the I-PAC team members to find out what best could be done to attract the voters and improve the party graph in the coming days, in the event of early elections being inevitable.
Jagan also sought field level reports on the performance of the party MLAs, so that he can take a quick decision on whom he should drop and whom to continue in the elections.
