For the last few days, there has been a systematic attempt to link YSR Congress party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy with a particular religion and caste to allege that he has been favouring only those belonging to that particular religion and caste.
While Bharatiya Janata Party leaders in the state have been raising the bogey of Jagan’s Christianity stating that he has been showing undue favouritism towards the people of his faith, leaders like Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan have been attacking him for being a Reddy.
Pawan has been calling him Jagan Reddy, rather than chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy.
Despite the counters by the YSRC leaders, the opposition parties have been selectively targeting Jagan on the basis of his religion and caste.
On Monday, the chief minister sought to rebut the allegations against him by his detractors based on his religion caste.
He made it clear that he would not be disturbed by such allegations and go ahead with his agenda of implementing welfare schemes.
Speaking at the launch of YSR Post-Operative Sustenance (YSR Arogyasri Asara) scheme here on Monday, Jagan asserted that his religion was humanity and his caste was the people’s welfare.
“It is unfortunate that some people are talking about my religion and my caste. I tell you now that humanity is my religion and keeping up my word is my caste,” he said, asserting that despite all such talk, he would go forward with his welfare work.
