Jagan gets court nod to fly abroad

A special court for CBI cases at Nampally in Hyderabad on Tuesday granted permission to YSR Congress party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy to go abroad from May 16 to June 1.

Reacting to a petition filed by Jagan last week, the court heard the arguments from both his lawyer and also the CBI before granting permission to the chief minister to go to European countries including England, France and Switzerland to spend time with his family.

The CBI court asked Jagan to submit all his personal details and travel details, including his mobile phone number and mail ID to the CBI before proceeding on the foreign trip.

The CBI earlier appealed to the court not to grant permission to Jagan, as he has been facing 11 criminal cases. It expressed concerns about allowing him to travel internationally, given the unresolved legal matters.

The CBI also informed the court that the primary hearing for Jagan’s case is slated for May 15.

The advocate, appearing on behalf of Jagan, argued that the AP CM has travelled abroad multiple times without violating any court orders. He pointed to the right to travel abroad in the Constitution and requested permission.
