Jagan extends term of Yarlagadda Lakshmi Prasad

The Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy government has extended the term of renowned scholar, writer and former Rajya Sabha member Yarlagadda Lakshmi Prasad as the chairman of Andhra Pradesh Official Languages Commission.

Orders to this effect were issued by principal secretary, Tourism, Culture, Sports and Youth affairs Rajat Bhargava on Thursday.

Yarlagadda would be in the post for a period of another two years, till August 25, 2023.

He would continue to enjoy the cabinet rank, besides all the salaries, perks and protocol to be given to any cabinet minister.

Yarlagadda, a Padma Bhushan awardee, had been associated with the YSRCP for the last few years and soon after Jagan Mohan Reddy came to power in May 2019, he rewarded Yarlagadda with the post of Official Languages Commission chairman in August 2019.

A close associate of former MP and TDP founder N T Rama Rao’s son Nandamuru Harikrishha, Yarlagadda served as the Rajya Sabha member during the Chandrababu Naidu regime in 1996, but deserted the TDP later.

Interestingly, Jagan also rewarded NTR’s widow Nandamuri Lakshmi Parvathi with another position four days ago.

She was appointed as honourary professor of Andhra University.

Lakshmi Parvathi has already been enjoying the position of Chairperson of Telugu Academy, which has recently been converted into Telugu and Sanskrit Academy.

Now, this honorary professor post has come as another gift to her.

Andhra University Registrar V Krishna Mohan handed over the orders in this regard to Lakshmi Parvathi on Monday last.

She thanked Andhra University for giving her the opportunity and she would strive to make all out efforts for the promotion of Telugu and Sanskrit languages.
