Jagan can speak as MLA in assembly: Ayyanna

YSR Congress party president and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy will get ample time to speak in the assembly, if he decides to come to the House, state assembly speaker Chintakayala Ayyanna Patrudu said.

“Jagan is not a chief minister now. He is only an MLA. Like any other member, he can come to the assembly and represent the issues pertaining to his Pulivendula constituency. He will get enough time to speak as an MLA,” Ayyanna Patrudu said.

Stating that it was not correct on the part of Jagan to boycott the assembly just because he was not given the leader of opposition status, the speaker said: “Posts and positions are not permanent. But it is the duty of an elected member to represent the issues of the people who elected him to the assembly,” he said.

Patrudu wondered why Jagan is under the impression that he won’t get the chance to speak in the assembly.

“Like any other MLA, Jagan, too, will get a chance to speak and express his views,” he said, adding that the YSRCP president should fulfil his responsibility as the elected representative.

“Not only Jagan, all the YSRCP MLAs would get the opportunity to raise issues. But the allotment of time for speaking will be in proportionate to the strength of the party,” he asserted.

The Speaker said as many as 88 members of the present assembly were newly elected and he was planning to give them training in the assembly proceedings.

“Former Vice President of India M Venkaiah Naidu, Lok Sabha speaker and former assembly speaker Nadendla Manohar would give part in the two-day training programme for the newly-elected MLAs,” he said.
