Jagan bail cancellation: CBI court defers verdict

Jagan bail cancellation: CBI court defers verdict

The suspense over the cancellation of bail of YSR Congress party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy in the alleged quid pro quo case being probed by the Central Bureau of Investigation will continue for some more time.

Principal special judge Justice B R Madhusudhan Rao of the CBI courts in Hyderabad, which reserved its judgement for Wednesday, deferred the same to September 15.

The CBI court judge on Wednesday completed its arguments on the cancellation of bail of YSRC general secretary and Rajya Sabha member V Vijay Sai Reddy and reserved its judgement.

It said it would deliver the judgement in both the cases (that of Jagan and Sai Reddy) on September 15.

The petitions seeking cancellation of bails for Jagan and Sai Reddy were filed by rebel YSRC MP from Narasarapuram Kanumuru Raghurama Krishnam Raju in April this year alleging that they were trying to influence the witnesses.

The CBI counsel did not submit any affidavit to the court stating that Jagan was influencing the witnesses. It said the court may use its discretion in pronouncing the judgement.

Raju argued in his petition that Jagan was intimidating the witnesses cited by the prosecution and also influencing the co-accused in the case by appointing them in several key positions in the court.

Jagan’s counsel opposed Raju’s contention and described his bail cancellation plea as one that has no relevance to the case or to the facts.

The counsel said that Raju started this campaign against Jagan only after the party sought a summary ouster of Raju from Parliament by way of disqualification because he became a tool in the machinations of YSRC’s rivals and was acting in a way that was inimical to the interests of the party.

Jagan also branded Raju as an evader of huge loans and an accused in CBI cases related to defrauding banks.
