Jagan acts fast on council, sends resolution to centre!

YSR Congress party government in Andhra Pradesh led by chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy seems to be acting in a breakneck speed to get the state legislative council abolished at the earliest.

Within hours of the state assembly adopting a resolution abolishing the legislative council with a mandate of 133-0, the Jagan government sent the resolution to the Union home ministry with a request to introduce a bill in Parliament in this regard.

Soon after the assembly was adjourned sine die after adopting the resolution, the assembly secretariat sent the resolution copy to state chief secretary.

By Tuesday morning, the chief secretary forwarded the resolution copy to the Centre along with all the details of the assembly discussions.

The chief secretary requested that the Centre take a quick decision on the assembly resolution and see that it got the approval from the President of India.

Now, the issue has gone form the purview of the state government and the ball is thrown into the court of the Centre.

Interestingly, the assembly resolution was also sent directly to the Union law department and also the Election Commission of India, so that there would be no further notifications on the vacancies in the legislative council.

Apparently, Jagan is learnt to have decided to entrust the responsibility to his party general secretary and state government’s official representative in New Delhi V Vijay Sai Reddy, of pursuing the matter with the Centre and see that the bill is introduced in the coming budget session of Parliament.
