At a time when contradictory reports are emerging from the YSR Congress party government in Andhra Pradesh over the fate of Amaravati as the state capital region, minister for municipal administration and urban development Botsa Satyanarayana’s latest statements created further confusion.
Even as the party leaders and a couple of ministers have ruled out shifting of the capital from Amaravati, Botsa once again made a statement in Vizianagaram on Sunday that chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy was reconsidering the construction of capital in Amaravati.
He reiterated that the capital city should not be intended for the benefit of a particular community or section. It should be the common property of the people of Andhra Pradesh, he said.
“The previous Telugu Desam Party government had not considered the recommendations made by Sivaramakrishnan Committee which had strongly opposed the construction of capital in the present location. The area in which the capital is being constructed faces flood threat,” he said.

Adding to this confusing statement, Bharatiya Janata Party leader and Rajjya Sabha member T G Venkatesh said he had reliable information that Jagan would have more than two capital regions in the state.
“Apart from Amaravati, he will develop Kadapa, Tirupati and Donakonda also as the capital cities,” he said.
Analysts say the sooner Jagan comes out with a policy statement on the capital status, the better for the people, so that they would get clarity on the issue.
