If you touch my feet, I'll touch yours: Naidu

Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday announced an interesting decision he has taken to avoid embarrassment in public places.

In an informal chat with the media at the TDP central office, Naidu said he had decided to discourage people to touch his feet.

“I request my party cadre and also all sections of people who come to meet me to give up the culture of touching my meet. It is a bad culture,” he said.

Stating that the people are not listening to him despite his repeated requests not to touch his feet, Naidu said hereafter, if anybody does it, he would also touch his or her feet.

“If you touch my feet, I will reciprocate in the same manner,” he said.

The TDP chief also sent a similar message to all his party leaders not to encourage people and party workers to touch their feet.

“We should prostrate before only our parents, teachers and the Almighty. But not the political leaders. I hope everybody will follow my suggestion. You should uphold your self-respect,” he said.

He said he would follow the proverb of “practise before you preach,” and said from today, he would not allow anybody to touch his feet.

“The practice will begin with me from now on,” Naidu added.
