The discussions between ace film maker Ram Gopal Varma and Andhra Pradesh cinematography minister Perni Venkatramaiah alias Nani over cinema ticket rates seem to have made no headway.
RGV told the reporters that he had explained the logic behind the demand for upward revision for cinema ticket rates to protect the Telugu film industry from collapse.
He said he had not discussed about raids on theatres or their licencing issues.
“It is for the government to take a decision,” he said.
However, Nani reacted strongly to the arguments of RGV.
He said the government had every right to fix the cinema ticket rates as per the Cinemas (Regulation) Act, 1955 and nothing was done against the law.
“If Varma has his own logic in his arguments, the government, too, has its own logic, but it will be embarrassing to other side. Whatever he wanted to tell, he told us. Whatever we wanted to tell him, we said. There is nothing new the government is doing,” he said.
On the latest decision on 50 per cent occupancy in theatres, Nani said it was taken not to trouble the industry but only in the wake of Coronavirus spread.
“If the film industry is not happy, it can postpone the release of the films, as was done in the case of RRR and Radhe Shyam,” he said.
