Rayalaseema, which had been the traditional bastion of the Congress before 2014 and the YSR Congress party after the bifurcation of combined Andhra Pradesh, completely ditched the party led by Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy.
In 2019 elections, the YSRCP won 49 out of 52 assembly seats in this region. The TDP could get only three seats – party president N Chandrababu Naidu from Kuppam in Chittoor, his brother-in-law Nandamuri Balakrishna from Hindupur in Anantapur and senior leader Payyavula Kesav from Uravakonda in Anantapur district.
This time, it was a total disaster for the YSRCP. While the TDP swept the entire Rayalaseema region, winning 45 out of 52 assembly seats, the YSRCP had to be content with just seven seats.
The YSRCP leaders who won from this region are: Jagan Mohan Reddy from Pulivendula, his cabinet colleague Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy from Punganur, Akepati Amarnath Reddy from Rajampet, Dasari Sudha from Badvel, Y Balanagi Reddy from Mantralayam, B Virupakshi from Aluru and P Dwarakanath Reddy from Tamballapalli.
In fact, the YSRCP did not open its account in as many as eight out of 13 erstwhile combined districts of the state. The party did not win even a single seat in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, East Godavari, West Godavari, Krishna, Guntur, Nellore and Anantapur districts, while it could win negligible number of seats in Visakhapatnam, Prakasam, Chittoor, Kurnool and Kadapa.
It won two seats in the tribal constituencies of Araku Valley and Paderu assembly constituencies in Visakhapatnam, Yerragondapalem and Darsi in Prakasam district, Mantralayam and Aluru in Kurnool district, Badwel, Rajampet and Pulivendula in Kadapa and Tamballapalle and Punganur in Chittoor district.
In the north coastal districts of Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam, which account for 34 MLA seats, the YSRCP won only two seats leaving the remaining 32 to the TDP.
In central and south coastal Andhra, which account for 55 assembly seats, the TDP swept the region by winning 53 assembly seats, leaving only two seats in Prakasam to the YSRCP.
The vote share of the YSRCP, which was 49.95% in 2019, fell sharply to 39.37% in 2024 assembly elections.
The vote share of the TDP, which was 39.17% in 2019 went up to 45.60% this time. Taking the vote share of the BJP and the Jana Sena into account, the NDA secured 55.38% of votes in the present elections.
