Following the issuance of the final list of National Register of Citizens in Assam in which 19 lakh alleged illegal migrants were left out, the Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday demanded a similar NRC for Telangana as well.
BJP Telangana unit spokesman K Krishna Sagar Rao, in a statement, claimed that there had been a sharp rise in the number of illegal immigrants into Telangana, particularly in Hyderabad in the guise of refugees.
Krishna Sagar Rao said this trend was growing and illegal immigrants were moving into Telangana State from many borderline states, finding the local environment conducive for their survival.
“The Telangana state government in political connivance with AIMIM is looking the other way, with full knowledge of this dangerous trend,” he said.
The BJP spokesman said though the Telangana police had pegged the number of illegal Rohingya refugees in the state as 5000, the real numbers were running into several lakhs.
“These illegals are being used by AIMIM in variety of ways apart from using them as illegal voters during elections,” he alleged.
He further said the illegal immigrant issue is a “ticking time bomb” and can have “very dangerous consequences for communal harmony, peace and stable law & order in the state.
“The NRC must be applied to Telangana state too. This should be taken up in the larger interest of the state and the nation,” he said.
The state wing of the BJP intends to formally appeal to and brief Union Home Minister Amit Shah on the relevance of this demand.
