How about 3 states, rather than 3 capitals?

Even as the YSR Congress party and the Jagan Mohan Reddy government have been going all out to thwart the ongoing padayatra by the farmers of Amaravati before it enters the north coastal Andhra districts, the controversy over three capitals vs Amaravati capital is taking a curious turn.

Against this backdrop, Amaravati Bahujan Joint Action Committee has made a latest proposal to the chief minister.

In a letter to Jagan Mohan Reddy, JAC leader P Balakotaiah regretted that the YSRCP leaders have been creating rifts between the farmers of Amaravati and the people of north-coastal Andhra.

“You and your party leaders have sought to create an impression that the Amaravati farmers were selfish people and they do not want the people of other regions to develop,” he said.

He said the YSRC leaders were spreading the message that Amaravati farmers are conspiring to bring pressure on the government to spend lakhs of crores of rupees in their region, thereby depriving other regions of the development.

“We don’t want to go deep into the issue and expose the evil motive behind this campaign. But it is pretty evident from the statements of the YSRC leaders that they are creating differences among people of the three regions,” the JAC leader said.

He suggested that if the Jagan government wanted to create three capitals, it would be better to have three states, instead of one state.

“The Centre can form new states or merge states through Article 3. You have massive majority in the state assembly, 22 MPs in Lok Sabha and 10 MPs in Rajya Sabha. You can use your influence the Centre to create three states with three different capitals,” he said.

So, Balakotaiah said instead of three capitals bill, Jagan could introduce three states’ bill, carving out separate Rayalaseema state with four districts, north-costal Andhra state with three districts and the rest of Andhra into central Andhra state.

Each state could have a full-fledged capital city of its own, so that all the three regions would develop completely and progress, he added.
