The advent of social media in the last few years might have helped spread of information faster and wider to the people across the world. But in politics, especially in India, it has virtual erased the boundaries of decency and dignity in politics.
Before the emergence of social media, leaders of various political parties used to depend on the mainstream media – both print and electronic – to criticise their political rivals.
Since they were directly speaking to the media, the leaders used to control themselves in using harsh language against the rivals.
The criticism was confined to political issues and even if they used strong words, they were well within the limits, though at times, they used to use unparliamentary language.
But after the social media came into existence, the leaders are crossing all their limits and have been indulging in filthy abuses and dirty comments and sometimes, even dragging women and other members of the families of their rivals into their ugly banter.
The ongoing war of words between former Telugu Desam Party minister Chintakayala Ayyanna Patrudu and present YSR Congress party minister Ambati Rambabu has erased all boundaries of decency.
They are freely abusing each other in the filthiest language, creating a sort of abhorrence for the people.
Ayyanna referred to Ambati as “Kambabu,” alleging that the latter had sought alleged sexual favours from a woman anchor of a YouTube channel and said the days of the minister are numbered because the evidence had reached chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy and other officials concerned. He described it as “Kambabu Boothu Puranam.”
Ambati shot back strongly, described Ayyanna as Chintakayala Somberi and Battathala Baduddhayi. He even dragged TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu’s son Nara Lokesh into this murky war of words, saying Ayyanna had arranged beds for “Chinna Babu” who was chilling out in swimming pools.
He did not spare even Telugu Mahila president Vangalapudi Anitha, who also uses social media to attack the YSRC leaders.
“Pedababu, who usurped the party, Chintakayala Someri, Vankayala Banitha, Eenadu, Andhra Jyothy and TV5 – whoever had spoken or written about my character, people are not ready to believe them. You are all equal to a strand of my hair,” he said.
Ambati also took a dig at Naidu’s brother-in-law Nandamuri Balakrishna, while posing a series of questions.
“Whose sexcapades are responsible for gun firing in Chinni Gopala’s bedroom?” he asked, indirectly doubting the character of Balakrishna’s family members.
And the ugly war of words continues!
