The Andhra Pradesh high court on Friday reserved its judgement on removal of restrictions on the Amaravati to Arasavilli padayatra of farmers of the capital region in protest against the three capitals’ decision of the Jagan Mohan Reddy government.
After prolonged hearing of the heated arguments between the counsels of Amaravati farmers and the police department, the high court reserved its judgement. In all probability, the high court may deliver its judgement on Monday.
The farmers gave an undertaking to the high court that only 600 farmers would take part in the yatra. If some of them, for any reason, drop out from the yatra, they should be allowed to be replaced by other farmers, the counsel for the farmers requested the court.
The counsel told the court every detail of the participants in the yatra would be given to the police, including those who would be joining the yatra midway.
He also requested that those who want to express their solidarity with the farmers undertaking padayatra, could be allowed to follow them either in front of or behind the farmers.
The counsel for the government said the farmers were not following the high court orders. He denied the allegations that the police were harassing the farmers.
“The police were only insisting on the farmers displaying their identity cards,” he said.
The padayatra of Amaravati farmers came to a halt at Ramachandrapuram village in Konaseema district on October 22 in protest against the alleged high-handed behaviour of the police. They said they would resume the padayatra only after getting the court directions.
