HC orders daily hearing on cases against Jagan!

In a significant development, the Telangana high court on Wednesday ordered that the special court for Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) cases take up daily hearing of the arguments in the alleged quid pro quo cases filed by the CBI against YSR Congress party president and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy.

The high court, which heard the petition filed by former MP and Kapu leader Ch Harirama Jogaiah seeking expeditious hearing of the cases against Jagan, expressed dissatisfaction over lack of progress in the matter.

The CBI lawyer told the court that the investigation into the cases against Jagan was being delayed for various reasons. However, the high court said it was instructing the CBI court to conduct the hearing every day and dispose of the case at the earliest.

The government has already filed a counter in this case and the high court deferred the hearing to July 23, after asking Jagan’s counsel to file a counter.

It also asked the CBI to submit a comprehensive report on the status of the case against Jagan till now.

If the CBI court takes up the hearing of the cases daily, it will be imperative for Jagan to attend the trial in the Nampally criminal courts in Hyderabad regularly.

It remains to be seen whether he will seek an exemption from personal appearance in the court.
