The Andhra Pradesh high court on Wednesday ordered that the state police register a criminal case against YSR Congress party leader and former minister Vidadala Rajini in connection with allegations of custodial torture of a social media activist.
The complaint was filed by Pilli Koti, a resident of Chilakaluripet, who alleged that he was subjected to severe physical torture in 2019 for questioning the Jagan government on social media.
He claimed that he was detained and tortured for five days at the Chilakaluripet police station at the behest of Rajini.
Despite repeatedly lodging complaints with the police in recent times, no action was taken, prompting him to approach the high court for justice, Koti said.
The high court directed that the police book a case against Vidadala Rajini, along with her personal assistants Ramakrishna and Phani, as well as the then Chilakaluripet Circle Inspector (CI) Suryanarayana.
The high court instructed Palnadu district police to register the case within two weeks and submit the investigation details.
