HC Makes Aggressive Comments On Jagan Rule

It looks like the high court in Andhra Pradesh has come to the conclusion that the YSRC party government led by CM Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has declared a war against judiciary in the state.

It was evident from the way the high court judges made very serious comments against the Jagan government on the issue of the ruling party leaders allegedly attacking the judiciary over a series of negative judgements against the government.

A division bench of the high court comprising Justice Rakesh kumar and Justice Umadevi took serious view of the comments made by state assembly speaker Thammineni Sitaram, deputy chief minister Narayana Swamy, YSRC general secretary V Vijaya Sai Reddy, Lok Sabha member Nandigam Suresh and several other leaders against judiciary.

The HC wondered if the police were trying to shield such leaders who were trying to pose a threat to democracy by spitting fire on the judiciary. It acknowledged that the police were booking cases against people who criticise the government.

Stating that such a situation was nowhere prevailing in the country, the high court bench wondered whether the state government had launched a war against judiciary.

It asked whether the speaker had made the comments against judiciary inside or outside the assembly. It said it would issue separate proceedings against the speaker.

The high court rapped the CID authorities for not serving notices and registering cases against the YSRC leaders who made serious comments on judiciary and judges in the recent times.

It said there is a need for a probe by a Central agency into the comments passed by the people in Constitutional and public positions.

State Advocate General Sriram and CID counsel Niranjan Reddy asserted that the CID had been acting as per the law. They said the government had no objection for a CBI probe, as long as no findings are made against the CID.
