The sudden decision of former minister and senior TDP leader Galla Aruna Kumari to resign from the party’s politburo created a storm in the party, which is already facing a crisis situation all over the state.
Aruna sent her resignation letter to party president and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday night. It is not exactly known what reasons she had mentioned in the letter for her decision, but it has certainly created tremors in the party.
Though party sources say Aruna was not evincing interest in party activities due to her age-related issues, others say there must be definitely some strong reasons for her decision.
“May be she has felt there is no future in the party and she might also be sulking for being sidelined in the district party affairs,” a party leader said.
Galla Aruna had been with the Congress party for quite a long time, before switching over to the TDP after the state bifurcation.
She contested the assembly elections from Chandragiri assembly constituency in 2014, but could not win the seat. In 2019, she did not contest the elections at all.
However, her son Galla Jayadev who joined the TDP along with her, won as Guntur MP both in 2014 and 2019. He is still playing active role in the party and has been leading the agitation in support of Amaravati as the capital city.
It remains to be seen what future course of action Galla Aruna would take after quitting the politburo. As of now, she is still a member of the TDP and nobody is able to guess whether she will quit the party, too, or retire from politics.
