There is no end to foolish stories. There is no limit for those who believe in such stories as well.
Can Prakasam Barrage be demolished by hitting it with boats? Would anyone plan to destroy an entire barrage with boats?
Here's a story that is making rounds in WhatsApp groups, where even educated software engineers are believing it out of ignorance.
"Jagan Reddy's massive conspiracy to demolish Prakasam Barrage and turn Vijayawada into a water grave has been exposed.
Three boats belonging to YCP, owned by Komati Rammohan, the nephew of YCP MLC Talashila Raghuram, a close confidant of Jagan Reddy, were tied together and released simultaneously on the Prakasam Barrage.
Jagan Reddy allegedly devised a criminal plan to carry out this act just when a flood of 12 lakh cusecs was approaching the barrage. Fortunately, the barrage was not significantly damaged.
Komati Rammohan and Ushadri fled as the police launched an investigation. The inquiry into this matter is ongoing."
The shocking scenario is that even learned software engineers are believing this and sharing it in their groups, commenting on it on social media.
If the Prakasam Barrage is weak enough to be destroyed by a few boats, and if anyone get an idea to destroy it, he could have used 100 boats instead of just three.
On the other hand, if the barrage were truly that weak, it would be better to demolish it entirely and build a stronger one.
When we asked a senior civil engineer who deals with building dams, to comment on this, he said, "People who use common sense should feel pity for those who cook up such weak stories, as well as those who believe in them".
