Flash Back: Karamchedu Massacre Vs Yellow Media

Flash Back: Karamchedu Massacre Vs Yellow Media

July 17 is the black day in the hearts of many Dalit people. A caste based attack took place on the Dalits of Karamchedu area on 17 July 1985 killing and raping the Dalit labor in the fields.

Surprisingly, the news was kept in inside pages of the main dailies like Andhra Jyothy and Eenadu of those days.

The reason was the dailies belong to the caste that has attacked on Dalits. It was only Udayam daily of Dasari Narayana Rao that took this massacre on to the banner.

Only after an uproar, the two dailies have brought this on to the banners eventually.

Even the Praja Shakti and Visalandhra didn't give much importance to this as they were under Communist Party, the leaders of which are again from the same community.

Even Chandra Rajeswara Rao, the then Communist leader took his time to respond on this incident.

It is needless to say that there were good number of revolutionists and reformers from this community but on this day of July 17, the Dalit community remembers the particular community in bad light.
