Finally, decks have been cleared to the much-talked about flagship scheme of YSR Congress party government led by chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy to distribute nearly 30 lakh houses sites to the weaker sections.
In a video conference with all the district collectors on Wednesday, the chief minister announced that the house sites distribution programme will take place on December 25, coinciding with Christmas.
The chief minister originally proposed that the house site distribution should be done simultaneously all over the state, since it is not proper to deprive some people of the house sites while giving them to others. Now, he apparently given up his stubborn decision of distributing all the 30 lakh house sites at one go.
He decided that except in those areas where the distribution of house sites is in court litigations, the scheme will be implemented in all other parts of the state.
He instructed the collectors to make arrangements for the distribution of house sites to the landless poor in all the areas, except in the areas where the scheme is stayed by the courts, such as lands assigned to schools, colleges and universities and other disputed lands.
As of now, the high court had stayed the distribution of house sites in Amaravati capital region and also cancelled the programme in marsh lands which would get submerged in Godavari waters when there are floods. There are many other litigations in the courts like the Thotlakonda Buddhist lands.
In all, 30.68 lakh beneficiaries had been identified for the scheme. Of them, 15 lakh house sites are expected to be distributed among the poor on December 25 in the first phase. Jagan ordered that the construction of houses also could be launched on the same day.
The scheme was originally proposed to be launched on March 25 coinciding with Ugadi festival. Since then, it has been facing one hurdle or the other.
