A day after Rajya Sabha member and Backward Classes leader R Krishnaiah resigned from his post, another senior leader of the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) from Visakhapatnam and former MLA S A Rahman also quit the party.
Rahman submitted his resignation letter to party president and former chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, expressing his dissatisfaction with recent developments within the party.
Rahman, who previously served as the chairman of the Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority (VUDA), criticized the YSRCP government for failing on various fronts, including the conduct of EAMCET exams, and stated that he could no longer continue with such a party.
The former MLA hinted that the alliance government seems more committed to the welfare of Muslims, suggesting that he might soon join the TDP.
Rahman had quit the TDP in 2019 after disagreeing with the party's stance on the three capitals issue and joined the YSRCP in 2020.
He had previously disagreed with the party leadership over the number of seats allocated to Muslims during the 2019 elections, seeking greater representation.
During his time with the TDP, Rahman served as the Visakha One (now Visakha South) MLA and also as the Chairman of VUDA.
In 2009, he joined Praja Rajyam Party after serving as the city chief, and later rejoined the TDP in 2016.
With leaders leaving the party one after another, the YSRCP's base in Visakhapatnam is rapidly eroding. Recently, over ten party corporators shifted their loyalties, joining either the TDP or JSP.
As a result, the YSRCP lost the standing committee elections, securing no positions, while the alliance made a clean sweep, winning all ten panel chief posts.
