Ex-CS in soup, as probe ordered into freehold lands

Former Chief Secretary of Andhra Pradesh, K.S. Jawahar Reddy, is reportedly in trouble as the Chandrababu Naidu government has ordered an investigation into allegations of encroachment on lands assigned to SCs and STs and the stalling of registrations for such freehold lands.

According to reports, Jawahar Reddy allegedly had more than 100 acres of assigned land registered in and around Bhogapuram International Airport in the names of several benamis, while also initiating the process for the registration of another 170 acres of land.

It was revealed that 14 acres of land were allegedly registered in the names of the former chief secretary’s benamis at Gandigudem, 12 acres at Ramavaram, and 90 acres at Bhogapuram. No-objection certificates were issued for these lands, and the registration process was completed during the YSRCP regime.

Similarly, proposals were prepared for the registration of 120 acres at Tarluwada, 15 acres at Gudilova, 8 acres at Vemulavalasa, 4 acres at Gidijala, and 20 acres at Pendurthi. However, the registration was halted at the tehsildar level following the change of government.

“Jawahar Reddy colluded with local officials, held the lands, and pressured the MRO through the collector to favor him,” sources said.

It is worth mentioning that Jana Sena Party corporator in GVMC, Peethala Murthy Yadav, has alleged that a number of assigned lands were grabbed by the former chief secretary, who even attempted to register 70 acres of APIIC lands allotted to the Mega Food Park in Bhogapuram mandal.

“As the land scam was exposed, officials of the registration department refused to comply with Jawahar Reddy's demands, and the registration of lands worth more than Rs 200 crore was halted,” he said.
