Former chief justice of Andhra Pradesh high court J K Maheshwari, whose judgements on various issues landed YSR Congress party president and chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy in trouble, is all set to be elevated as Supreme Court judge.
A five-member collegium of the Supreme Court comprising of Chief Justice N V Ramana, Justices U U Lalit, A M Khanwilkar, D Y Chandrachud, and L Nageswara Rao on Tuesday recommended for the elevation of Justice Maheshwari to the Supreme Court.
Along with Justice Maheshwari, Telangana chief justice Hima Kohli has also been recommended for the promotion as SC judge.
Besides, seven others including Justice B V Nagarathna, Justice Bela Trivedi, Justice AS Oka, Justice Vikram Nath, Justice C T Ravikumar, Justice MM Sundresh and senior advocate P S Narasimha were also recommended to become the SC judges.
Justice Maheshwari’s elevation to the Supreme Court is believed to create more troubles for Jagan Mohan Reddy in several cases when referred to the apex court.
It may be mentioned that during his tenure as the Andhra Pradesh chief justice, Justice Maheshwari delivered several judgements which went against the Jagan government.
Some of the judgements include on case against Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar, English medium in government schools, three capitals issue etc.
Jagan even lodged a complaint with former Chief Justice of India S A Bobde against Justice Maheshwari, alleging that the latter was changing the roster of the cases as per the diktats of then SC judge N V Ramana.
Jagan went to the extent of alleging that Justice Maheshwari and a few other judges colluded with the TDP and conspired to dethrone his government.
