The mysterious disease that hit Eluru town of West Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh, resulting in hospitalisation of hundreds of people, has become a national news for the last three days.
While the opposition parties, particularly the Telugu Desam Party, took it as an opportunity to deride the government for its failure in preventing the disease, the facts from the field indicate that the government has done excellent job in reducing the intensity of the mysterious disease.
Particularly, the medical and health department has been doing a commendable job in identifying the root cause of the problem and attending on the patients.
While health minister Alla Nani hails from the same town, all top officials right from health secretary to health commissioner, director of public health and others have been camping in Eluru to review the situation from time to time.
At the government hospital, Eluru, doctors and nurses have been doing round-the-clock services. The latest set of ambulances – 1663, introduced by the Jagan government have come in handy for the department to ferry the affected people to the hospital all through the day.
The hospital has been equipped with number of stretchers and wheel chairs which have been kept ready and the hospital staff are available round the clock to attend on the patients coming in big numbers.
The health department authorities are preparing reports from time to time and sending to the government. The chief minister himself came to the hospital to call on victims and also has been reviewing the situation from time to time.
Yet, the TDP leaders are attacking Jagan government. TDP president and former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu demanded that the Jagan government disclose the results of tests held so far in order to find out the actual reasons for the Eluru mass sickness.
