In yet another setback to the YSR Congress party led by former Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy in Eluru, which is already beleaguered by the resignation of former minister Alla Nani, senior party leader and mayor of Eluru municipal corporation Sheik Noorjahan resigned from the party and joined the ruling Telugu Desam Party.
Noorjahan, who along with her husband Peda Babu submitted resignation letters to Jagan on Monday night, came to the TDP state headquarters at Mangalagiri on Tuesday and joined the party in the presence of general secretary and state minister Nara Lokesh.
Along with the Mayor couple, Eluru Urban Development Authority former chairman and town YSRCP president B Srinivas and several other YSRCP leaders also joined the TDP.
Lokesh said the party would extend warm welcome to those who join the party for the development of their respective constituencies.
Noorjahan said she had a long stint in the TDP in the past and was forced to join the YSRCP in 2019 under unavoidable circumstances.
“I have decided to come back to the TDP for the development of Eluru town. Very soon, as many as 40 municipal corporators will also be joining the TDP,” she said.
