Don't make impractical promises, Naidu tells parties

Vice President of India M Venkaiah Naidu, whose term is coming to an end in a few months, is known for making sharp observations.

Though he is not a politician now, he still has the sarcastic tongue, which pinpricks the politicians.

On Monday, Venkaiah took a dig at the present day political parties across the country, which make tall promises to the people with the sole objective of coming to power; and find it difficult to implement the same once they come to power.

Taking part in the memorial meeting of former Krishna zilla parishad chairman late Pinnamaneni Koteshwar Rao, Venkaiah said political parties make a lot of promises before the elections, but they do not make any assessment of their financial implications.

“I suggest the parties not to make impractical promises during the elections and suffer later while implementing them. Pinnamaneni never believed in making false promises. Yet, he won the appreciation of the voters,” he said.

The Vice President of India said all political parties should make an introspection on the pre-poll promises.

He reminded that the bureaucrats expressed their concern over the financial implications of the promises.

At the outset, it appears Venkaiah was indirectly taking a dig at YSR Congress party government in Andhra Pradesh led by Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, who is struggling financially to implement his welfare schemes.

But his comments should also be an eye opener to TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu, Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and all the other parties.

Venkaiah also found fault with the politicians lacking decency and decorum in attacking their political rivals in the most unparliamentary language.

He suggested that the politicians should learn to control their tongue and uphold the dignity of the politics.

This observation is also being viewed as a lesson for the YSRC as well as TDP leaders who used foul language against each other day in and day out.
