YSR Congress party leader and Andhra Pradesh women’s commission chairperson Vasireddy Padma has strongly defended issuing summons to Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu and his party leader Bonda Uma to appear before her and give an explanation for their behaviour with her at the Vijayawada government hospital on Friday.
“What does Naidu think of himself? Is he a demi-god? Doesn’t he know how to behave with women? When he behaves so discourteously with me, should I felicitate him or issue him summons?” Vasireddy asked while speaking to media.
She said during his regime Naidu had made the women’s commission a puppet in his hands.
“How dare a rowdy like Bonda Uma question the supremacy of a women’s commission? Yes, I am supreme. During your period, the commission was meant for causing tears to women. In the present regime, it is meant for wiping their tears. That is the difference,” she said.
Vasireddy said Naidu cannot escape giving an explanation to the women’s commission for his atrocious behaviour in front of a rape victim.
“You should acknowledge the power of the women’s commission. Have you gone there to console the victim or fight with us?” she asked.
Referring to Naidu’s comments that he would fight a legal battle against the commission, Vaisreddy wondered whether he thought the commission had no legal powers.
“Do you think women’s commission is a dummy organisation? Do you want to clip its wings? You have no option but to appear before the commission and give your explanation. You cannot escape by quoting courts,” she asserted.
