Telugu Desam Party general secretary Nara Lokesh has been staying in New Delhi since September 14, three days after his father and party president N Chandrababu Nadu was sent to Rajahmundry Central Jail after being arrested on September 9 in connection with the alleged skill development scam.
Last week, Lokesh returned to Rajahmundry to meet his father in the jail and was in the state for two days before he returned to New Delhi, this time, along with his wife Nara Brahmani.
Party sources say he has been in Delhi only to pursue his father’s case with the legal experts, apart from avoiding the Crime Investigation Department authorities who are waiting for an opportunity to arrest him in one case or the other.
Sources say Lokesh made a desperate attempt to meet the top bosses of Bharatiya Janata Party in New Delhi to seek their help in bailing out his father.
There were reports that he had sought an appointment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah to pour out his woes, but to no avail.
Highly placed sources, however, said Lokesh had managed to meet Amit Shah for a brief while on September 26, thanks to hectic lobbying by rebel YSR Congress MP K Raghu Ramakrishna Raju.
Though it is not exactly known what Lokesh has represented to Shah and what the latter’s response was, it is pretty evident that the TDP general secretary had drawn a blank to get any positive response from him.
Otherwise, there would have been some development in his father’s case.
“It appears Shah did not evince much interest in Naidu’s case and told Lokesh that the law would take its own course and if there is any merit in the TDP chief’s arguments, he would automatically get relief in the case,” sources said.
Sources said the meeting of Lokesh with Shah was kept a closely guarded secret by the TDP leaders, as there was little response from the Union minister.
“Had there been any favourable response, the TDP leaders would have definitely highlighted at least in the yellow media,” sources added.
