The Andhra Pradesh government led by chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy filed a defamation case against Eenadu group owner Ch Ramoji Rao for making baseless allegations against Crime Investigation Department (CID) and the state government on Margadarsi Chit Funds issue.
The Guntur sessions court has taken up the criminal defamation case, in which Ramoji Rao, Margadarsi CFPL chairman and Eenadu group head, his son Kiran and daughter-in-law, Managing Director Shailaja Kiran, editor Nageshwar Rao and the bureau chiefs of Andhra and Telangana was named as accused.
Cases under sections 501 and 502 read with 120 B and 109 IPC have been filed for the offences committed.
Additional AG Ponnavolu Sudhakar Reddy lashed out at that false claims published by Eenadu in its articles defaming the government of Andhra Pradesh.
“We are going to deal with it in the court,” he said.
The publication has been spreading false information about CID investigation into the Margadarsi Chit Fund scam.
The AG notified the court that the article read - "Margadarsi Pai Kutra" has no foundation whatsoever.
Reddy said the practise of writing front page pieces in their newspapers bitterly critical of the government has become a routine. This particular publication keeps circulating fake news based on exaggerated assertions and opinions.
“Why are newspapers portraying the story as a conspiracy while the constitutional system has the power to look into matters like Margadarsi Chit Fund Pvt Ltd. We will shortly file another complaint on similar stories being filed by the paper,” he said.
