It has been a long time since one has heard or seen former minister Daggubati Venkateshwar Rao, husband of Bharatiya Janata Party Andhra Pradesh unit president Daggubati Purandeshwari.
Daggubati was last seen in a meeting with BJP national president J P Nadda, along with his wife and Union tourism minister G Kishan Reddy in New Delhi, apparently to discuss the issue of party joining hands with the TDP-Jana Sena Party combine.
Otherwise, Daggubati has been away from active politics for the last four and a half years, after he contested on YSRCP ticket and lost the 2019 elections from Parchur in the hands of TDP candidate Eluri Sambasiva Rao. Subsequently, he quit the YSRCP.
Now that general elections are fast approaching again, Daggubati appears to be evincing interest in active politics. At a meeting on Monday, he said the voters of Parchur had done a good thing by defeating him in the last elections.
“Had I been elected assembly elections last time, I would have cut a sorry figure before the voters for not doing anything for them. I would not have moved freely before the voters, as they have been questioning the other MLAs for the lack of development in their constituencies. I would not have laid even a single road in my constituency,” he said.
Daggubati said he would thank god for not helping him get elected on YSRC ticket.
“I am unfit for the kind of politics being practised by the YSRCP. I would not have continued in the party,” he said.
He recalled that after he had lost the assembly elections, Jagan had called him and promised to make his son as an MLC and take him into the cabinet.
“But Jagan did not fulfil his promise at all. That is the Jagan’s style of politics,” he said.
Apparently, Daggubati is looking for an entry into the TDP and contest the Lok Sabha elections. Since his wife is in a big position in the BJP, she cannot join the TDP. If Daggubati has no place, he wants his son to be in the TDP politics at least this time.
