After nearly three decades, Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu shared the stage with his co-son-in-law, Daggubati Venkateswara Rao, at a book release event in Visakhapatnam on Thursday.
The two hugged and exchanged pleasantries, receiving cheers from their supporters.
It was an emotional moment, as Naidu and Daggubati had been politically estranged for several years, following different political paths and rarely engaging in conversation, at least in the political sphere.
Speaking at the launch of his book, World History, Daggubati acknowledged the past differences between them.
“There was indeed enmity between us in the past. However, things shouldn’t remain the same forever—moving forward is important,” he said.
He emphasized that he has no personal aspirations, and his only wish is to spend time with his family, friends, and well-wishers.
Daggubati also admitted that he had once written a book criticizing Naidu, but dismissed it as a thing of the past.
“But that’s behind us now. I don’t want to recall it,” he said.
Addressing Naidu directly, Daggubati humorously referenced Artificial Intelligence (AI)—a subject the Chief Minister has been discussing frequently.
“With AI advancing, humans may survive another 50 years. Sir, if you live that long, your son (Nara Lokesh) will be troubled,” he joked.
Naidu, in turn, responded with good-natured remarks about Daggubati. He noted that despite being a qualified doctor, Daggubati never practiced medicine, yet he served as Health Minister.
“Instead of practicing as a doctor, he made movies,” Naidu quipped.
He described Daggubati’s life as unpredictable, praising his ability to remain relaxed and cheerful despite challenges.
Naidu also shared a recent conversation they had: “I asked Daggubati how he was managing after quitting politics, as it might help me when I retire. He said he spends his time happily playing badminton, cards, and enjoying with his grandchildren. What a wonderful life!” Naidu remarked.
