Council abolition: Centre refuses to entertain TDP!

With the Andhra Pradesh legislative council secretary turning down the orders of its chairman Md Ahmed Shariff referring the two bills on capital city to select committees, decks have almost been cleared for the formation of three capitals for the state.

At the same time, the YSR Congress party government has stepped up its lobbying to get the legislative council abolition and it is only a matter of time for the Centre to introduce a bill in parliament on the same.

The Telugu Desam Party, which has failed to get the formation of select committees, is now desperately trying to prevent the abolition of the legislative council.

It was planning to send a delegation of MLCs to New Delhi on Tuesday to submit representation to Union home minister Amit Shah, law minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and others, requesting that the council should not be abolished.

However, to their utter shock, none of the Union ministers, including Shah, refused to give them appointment on the ground that they were busy with their meetings. They did not even suggest another date for the meeting.

In fact, they were planning to stay put in New Delhi for a couple of days and meet even Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Ramnath Kovind to present their version on Amaravati as well. But nobody was willing to meet them.

All that they could get was the appointment of Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, who was readily available to listen to their woes.

As a result, the MLCs postponed their plan to visit Delhi for now.
