Corona danger bells in AP: 37 deaths in one day!

The Coronavirus pandemic has been ringing danger bells in Andhra Pradesh as the number of Covid-19 positive cases and deaths has been increasing sharply with every passing day.

On Monday, the state has reported a record number of 37 deaths, the highest ever in the Telugu states, in a span of 24 hours.

The state also reported 1,935 positive cases for Covid-19, the highest in a single day, talking the overall number of positive cases to 31,103 cases and the total number of deaths to 365.

According to the medical bulletin released by the state medical and health department, six people died in Anantapur, four each in Kurnool, East Godavari and West Godavari, three each in Chittoor, Guntur, Krishna and Prakasam, two each in Kadapa and Nellore and one each in Srikakulam, Visakhapatnam and Vizianagaram.

The bulletin said as many as 1030 people recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of discharged persons to 16,464. At present, 14,274 people are still undergoing treatment in the hospitals.

Meanwhile, there were widespread complaints about poor quality of food being provided to patients and bad sanitation in government-run COVID-19 hospitals.

“Based on the complaints, the Chief Minister has directed that the Joint Collector (Development) in each district be made the nodal officer to check the quality of food and also sanitation in hospitals.

“The government is spending Rs 500 per head, per day, on food so it should be of that (high) quality, state COVID-19 nodal officer and Principal Secretary M T Krishna Babu said.
