As expected, the Andhra Pradesh police are withdrawing cases registered against Telugu Desam Party president and present chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu during the previous Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy government between 2019 and 2024.
Several cases were filed against Naidu during the YSR Congress party regime, including AP Skill Development Corporation scam, AP Fibernet scam, attempt to murder case at Angallu in Annamayya district, Amaravati inner ring road alignment scam, Amaravati insider trading scam, sand mining scam and liquor distilleries scam.
Now that Naidu has come back to power, the same police who registered the cases against him are withdrawing the same and telling the courts that the cases were false without any evidence.
On Wednesday, the Anamayya district police filed an affidavit in the court, stating that the case filed against Naidu in the alleged violence at Angallu village in 2023 were false.
“After a full-fledged investigation, authorities concluded that the allegations were based on false complaints. According to available reports, the police submitted their findings to the court accordingly seeking to withdraw the case,” sources said.
Back in August 2023, when Chandrababu Naidu, in his capacity as Leader of the Opposition, visited the district to inspect irrigation projects, there was significant resistance from YSRCP cadres.
A clash erupted during his visit. YSRCP supporters staged a protest in the middle of the road at Angallu Circle in Kurabalakota mandal, and stoned Naidu’s convoy. However, timely intervention by security personnel ensured that he was unharmed.
Later, YSRCP leader Umapathi Reddy lodged a police complaint stating that their group was merely heading to submit a petition to Naidu when TDP leaders attacked them with deadly weapons, allegedly incited by Naidu himself.
Based on this complaint, the Mudivedu police registered four cases against Chandrababu Naidu under serious non-bailable sections, including attempt to murder (IPC Section 307).
Former ministers Devineni Uma, Amaranath Reddy, and about 20 active TDP leaders were also named. Following pressure from YSRCP leadership, police went further and filed cases against hundreds of TDP leaders from Tamballapalle, Madanapalle, and Piler constituencies.
However, after the TDP-led alliance came to power, a thorough review of these events was conducted.
Investigations concluded that the attempted murder charge and the other cases were baseless. As a result, police closed all four cases and submitted the relevant reports to the court.
