Cops demand arrest of Ayyanna Patrudu

Andhra Pradesh police officers’ association on Thursday demanded the arrest of former minister and Telugu Desam Party senior leader Ch Ayyanna Patrudu for calling upon the people to revolt against the police, which is part of the constitutional machinery of the state.

Condemning the unparliamentary and objectionable language used by Ayyanna against the state police, the association demanded that the former minister tender an unconditional apology to the police department.

The association said it was shameful on the part of Ayyana, who had served in a constitutional post like minister in the previous government, that he had lacked basic understanding and respect towards the law.

“We feel it is a misfortune of the people of the state that people like you had worked as a state minister, for you don’t have the fundamental knowledge of who should be held responsible for the incident in the state assembly,” the association said, in a strongly-worded statement.

The association reminded that Ayyanna had made similar disrespectful comments against women home minister and even IPS officers, clearly proving that he had lacked courtesy and respect towards Constitutional positions.

Reacting strongly to Ayyanna’s comments that the state police were licking the armpits of the ruling party leaders, the association sought to know whose armpit Ayyanna had licked when he was the minister.

The association reminded that the police had done yeoman service to the people during the recent floods and heavy rains; one of them even lost his life while rescuing the flood-hit people.

“It is unfortunate that the former minister asked the police what they were plucking,” the association said.

It also took objection to Ayyanna’s call to the people asking them to strip the police and beat them.

“The people have already stripped you of power in the last elections because of your inefficiency,” it said and warned Ayyanna of serious repercussions, if he continued to make abusive comments against the police.
