Telugu Desam Party leaders are terribly upset with the way some of the police officials are still subservient to the senior YSR Congress party leaders who are facing criminal charges, even after the change of government in the state.
They are particularly referring to the so-called interrogation of former minister and senior YSRCP leader Jogi Ramesh by the Mangalagiri (rural) police authorities, led by deputy superintendent of police Murali Krishna.
Ramesh was supposed to be questioned in connection with the vandalism caused by him and his followers at the Undavalli residence of TDP president and present chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu four years ago.
Though Ramesh has appeared before the police, he sat before them for two hours and did not utter a word on the attack on Naidu’s residence. He was accompanied by other YSRCP leaders and former additional advocate general Ponnavolu Sudhakar Reddy.
The photos and videos that went viral revealed that the police had hardly questioned the former minister. Instead, the DSP was found having a friendly chat with him. Later, the DSP told the reporters that Ramesh did not cooperate with the cops.
Ramesh reportedly flaunted a copy of the high court order, without revealing what it is and the police did not insist on the same. They let him go, saying they would call him again for questioning. They did not confiscate his mobile phone.
“This was not the situation during the YSRCP regime. The police used to behave ruthlessly against the TDP leaders, beat them up in police stations without even questioning and arrest them. But now, the police are scared of taking action against Ramesh or any other YSRCP leaders,” a TDP leader said.
The TDP leaders are of the view that the police are still behaving like stooges of YSRCP, even though it had lost power in the recent elections. “The police are taking advantage of the soft nature of Chandrababu Naidu,” the TDP leader said.
