Speculation is growing within the YSRCP that former Speaker Tammineni Sitaram may be removed from his position as the party in-charge of Aamudalavalasa in Srikakulam district.
Party insiders suggest that a new leader may be appointed to take over the role, as there is opposition within the party against Tammineni.
A strong faction has even argued that he should not be given a ticket in the 2024 elections. However, due to the significance of the elections, the leadership had earlier decided to retain him.
Now, the YSRCP high command, which is working to restructure the party, is reportedly considering handing over responsibilities to second-tier leaders.
This move has reportedly come as a surprise to Tammineni, who has represented the Aamudalavalasa constituency since 1983.
Tammineni is said to be keen on having his son, Chiranjeevi Nag, contest the next elections as his successor.
However, the party leadership believes that introducing a new face is crucial for the YSRCP's chances in Aamudalavalasa. As a result, Chiranjeevi Nag appears to have missed the opportunity for now.
The constituency has traditionally been a stronghold of the TDP, and the YSRCP leadership feels that fresh leadership is necessary to challenge their dominance and gain an edge in the region.
