If Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister has his way, the Narendra Modi government at the Centre is likely to announce a special grant in the forthcoming Union budget for creating infrastructure in Amaravati capital city.
Naidu, who met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday and Union finance minister Nirmala Sitaraman on Friday, made a special request for adequate funds to kickstart the activity in Amaravati.
According to reports from New Delhi, Naidu asked for a comprehensive financial support for completion of the government complex and trunk infrastructure of the capital city of Amaravati.
Early this week, the Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA) has notified the Amaravati Government Complex area to revive the constructions of the secretariat, assembly and high court complexes, which were completed to the extent of 10-15 percent during the previous TDP regime.
The total cost of these buildings is around Rs 14,000 crore, including the infrastructure to be created for this complex. Besides, another Rs 19,769 crore is needed for creation of trunk infrastructure like roads, electric lines and underground drainage system etc.
However, it might not be possible for the Centre to release the entire amount of Rs 33,769 crore for these structures. But it is expected to release at least Rs 2,000 crore to the state government to kickstart the activity for these works.
Sources said the Centre might allocate this amount in the Union budget to be presented in the Parliament later this month.
“That itself would be a major achievement for Naidu,” sources added.
