The Central Bureau of Investigation probing the alleged murder of former MP and YSR Congress party leader Y S Vivekananda Reddy has registered a fresh case into the incident to speed up the investigation.
The CBI on Thursday registered a separate First Information Report under Section 302 of Indian Penal Code (IPC), without taking into consideration the case already registered by the Kadapa police under Section 174 of Criminal Procedure Code as a suspicious death.
The CBI also entrusted the case to the Special Crime Branch-III of Delhi CBI for further probe. Senior deputy superintendent of police Deepak Gaur has been appointed as special investigation officer in the case.
The case which has not been progressing for the last few weeks with some of the investigating officers and even the witnesses testing positive for Coronavirus and undergoing treatment.
“Now, the special investigation team of the CBI will resume the probe,” an official of the team said.
The CBI authorities have already been going aggressively in their investigation in connection with Viveka case. They questioned the accused in Kadapa central jail and gathered key evidences.
Instead of focussing only on politicians, the CBI authorities are also questioning all those who were associated with Viveka in the past, including a footwear shop owner. Similarly, they interrogated all those who had worked as Viveka’s drivers in the past.
It remains to be seen which turn the CBI inquiry would take in this case.
