Capital shock to Naidu: Vizag TDP chief quits!

Telugu Desam Party president and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu might have regained some lost ground in Krishna and Guntur districts with his strong resistance to the shifting of executive capital from Amaravati to Visakhapatnam.

But it appears to be costing him heavily in other parts of the state.

On Thursday, Telugu Desam Party’s Visakhapatnam urban unit president and former MLA Dr S A Rahman resigned from the primary membership of the party in protest against Naidu’s decision to oppose shifting of capital from Amaravati to Visakhapatnam.

Rahman also objected to the TDP’s support the Citizenship Amendment Bill in Parliament recently, stating that Naidu’s stand had hurt the sentiments of Muslim minorities.

He made very strong comments against Naidu before resigning from the party.

According to sources, Rahman is all set to join the YSR Congress party in the presence of party president and chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy during the latter’s visit to Visakhapatnam on December 28.

On Tuesday night, Rahman attended the meeting of the TDP leaders from Visakhapatnam held at a five-star hotel in Visakhapatnam, where they adopted a resolution to support Jagan Mohan Reddy’s plan to shift the executive capital to Visakhapatnam.

Former minister Ganta Srinivas Rao who was also present at the meeting welcomed the decision of Vizag becoming Executive Capital. It is only a matter of time that Ganta also might join the YSRC sooner or later.

For the last couple of months, Rahman has not been in good terms with the TDP leadership for ignoring him in the party activities in Vizag, while encouraging local MLA from Visakhapatnam (South) Vasupalli Ganesh Kumar. Both the MLA and Rahman have not been getting along well with each other for quite some time.
