Buchaiah Chowdary to quit TDP: Lokesh effect?

Buchaiah Chowdary to quit TDP: Lokesh effect?

Telugu Desam Party headed by former Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu received a rude shock with the announcement of senior party MLA from Rajahmundry and former minister Gorantla Buchaiah Chowdary that he would resign from the party soon.

Chowdary, considered to be a staunch loyalist of the TDP since the days of former chief minister N T Rama Rao, has been keeping away from the party activities for quite some time.

He is likely to take a plunge into the YSR Congress party, most probably after August 25.

Interestingly, Naidu made a desperate attempt to stop Chowdary from quitting the party.

He called up the senior MLA and requested him to stay put in the party.

He assured that he would sort out all the issues which were bothering Chowdary.

However, Chowdary announced his resignation from the party even after speaking to the party president.

He said he would disclose his plan of action after August 25 and till then, he would not like to make any comments.

Former MLA Nallamalli Ramakrishna Reddy expressed hope that Chowdary would stay put in the TDP.

Describing him as a sincere and committed party leader, Reddy said if there were any internal issues, they would be sorted out.

“It is just a storm in the tea cup. Chowdary will not resign from the party. The leadership is negotiating with him to clear all his apprehensions,” another TDP leader Ganni Krishna said.

Apparently, Buchaiah Chowdary was terribly hurt with the way he was being treated in the party despite being a senior in the party.

According to party sources, the MLA has no complaints against Naidu, but he is annoyed over the style of functioning of TDP general secretary Nara Lokesh.

“Despite he being a senior member of the TDP politburo, Chowdary feels Lokesh was instigating juniors in East Godavari district against him. Unfortunately, both Naidu has not been responding to Chowdary’s calls and giving him an opportunity to give vent to his feelings,” a party leader said.

Though there is a talk that Chowdary might join the Bharatiya Janata Party, party sources said the chances of him joining the YSR Congress party are more, because of his soft approach towards the ruling party.
