The defeat of the BJP in Delhi Assembly elections is a blessing in disguise for Jagan Mohan Reddy government in Andhra Pradesh.
Though Jagan Mohan Reddy wanted the BJP not to have absolute majority in the Lok Sabha elections, so as to put pressure and get due share of schemes for AP, the series of defeats for the BJP makes the party weak.
The BJP is still growing weak in the Upper House (Rajya Sabha), though it has absolute majority in the Lower House (Lok Sabha).
The Upper House in Parliament is not same as the Upper House (Legislative Council) in the States, which can be abolished by a resolution of the Assembly.
The Rajya Sabha is a permanent House and with short fall in the majority, the BJP has to depend on some parties, like the YSR Congress of Jagan Mohan Reddy.
The YSR Congress has right now, two members and in next couple of months, its strength would go up to 6.
The BJP, which is able to maintain a small majority in the House with the support of small parties like YSR Congress. The BJP or the ruling NDA has 125 seats, while the Congress-led Opposition has 69 seats and others having 45 seats.
If Jagan’s strength increases to 6 in this House, the AP chief minister would be a key player for the BJP to win its bills in Rajya Sabha.
It is then, Jagan can have his word prevailed upon the BJP leadership, be it the special category status or any other bifurcation promises.
People of AP in general, supporters of Jagan Mohan Reddy in particular, should thank the Delhi voters and AAP leadership, for defeating BJP in the Assembly elections. Thus the BJP’s defeat in Delhi is a good news for AP.
