BJP Will Disappear from AP Council, TDP To Fall

The BJP is set to disappear from the Upper House of the Legislative Council in Andhra Pradesh, as biennial elections are scheduled for March and May this year.

The BJP currently has two members in the house, one representing the local bodies constituency and the other representing the Graduates Constituency, out of a total of 58 members.

Vakati Narayana Reddy, who won the Nellore local bodies constituency as a TDP candidate, became a BJP member after being suspended by the TDP.

PVN Madhav was elected as the BJP candidate from the Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, and Visakhapatnam Graduates Constituency.

These two members are retiring this March and May, bringing the BJP's presence in the house down to zero.

Meanwhile, the TDP's strength is also set to decrease to single digits with these biennial elections. Nara Lokesh and B Tech Ravi, among others, will be retiring from the party.

The TDP will also be vacating all 8 local bodies' MLC seats, which will go to the ruling YSR Congress, which is strong in the urban and rural local bodies in all districts.

With the 2024 general elections a year away, both the ruling YSR Congress and the opposition TDP are likely to take the teacher and graduates constituencies elections seriously.

Elections for three teacher constituencies and two graduate constituencies will be held on March 13, with the counting scheduled for March 16.

The Progressive Democratic Front (PDF) currently holds three out of the five constituencies that will go to election on March 13.

This time, the ruling YSR Congress wants to capture these seats, along with wresting the BJP's graduates seat from North Andhra region.
