The Bharatiya Janata Party, in high spirits after winning eight Lok Sabha seats in Telangana, is looking to conquer as many local bodies as possible in the upcoming elections.
According to reports, the BJP leadership has instructed its Telangana unit leaders to capitalize on the gains achieved in the Lok Sabha elections in the upcoming local body polls.
The leadership wants the state unit to maintain the momentum until the local body polls so that the BJP can emerge as a significant force in the state.
At a recent meeting of the BJP state executive, Union Minister and state BJP president G Kishan Reddy mentioned there was a positive swing in favor of the BJP in Telangana.
He expressed confidence that the enthusiastic performance in the Lok Sabha polls would be reflected in the forthcoming local body elections.
Sources say the BJP in Telangana has decided to reach out to the masses in the districts with a new slogan, “Salute Telangana,” to thank the people for their confidence in the BJP by electing eight MPs and providing a 35 percent vote share.
The BJP state executive recently adopted the “Salute Telangana” resolution to thank the people of Telangana for their support.
The BJP is planning to launch outreach programs to connect with people in the interiors of the state using the “Salute Telangana” slogan to consolidate the party’s position and secure impressive victories in the next local body elections.
Since the BJP managed to lead in 46 Assembly segments and stood second in 44 Assembly segments, the state leadership believes that the party’s performance during the Lok Sabha elections reflects the growing acceptance of the BJP by the Telangana populace.
The BJP feels that the Congress, with its inherent group politics and failure to deliver on guarantees and other big promises, may not sustain its position for long.
To keep the people's memory fresh about the tall, impractical promises made by the Congress during the polls, the state BJP plans to activate all its frontal organizations, including Yuva Morcha, Mahila Morcha, and ABVP, to intensify agitations across the state in the coming days.
