The attack on Ramatirtham temple in Vizianagaram district and beheading of Lord Rama idol’s head in the last week of December triggered a nationwide sensation, drawing protests from all parties.
After initial indifference, the Jagan government reacted sharply and ordered a CID probe into it. It also constituted a special investigation team of the police to probe into the recent attacks on various temples in the recent past.
The episode took political colour with the Telugu Desam Party making a hue and cry over the incident and TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu visited the temple creating tense moments. The situation has now been brought under control with the police initiating a probe.
But the Bharatiya Janata Party does not want the flames to be doused so quickly. For it, Lord Rama is a national pride and it has realised that the longer the controversy is sustained the more will be the mileage for it politically.
So, the BJP and its alliance partner Jana Sena of actor Pawan Kalyan have decided to continue their agitation as long as they can.
They formed a committee in the name of Ramatirtham Porata Committee which would continue to stoke flames and corner the government.
Jana Sena said the CID probe ordered by Jagan government was just an eyewash and was aimed at diverting the people’s attention.
“The committee will continue the fight under the leadership of BJP state president Somu Veerraju, till the real culprits are brought to book,” the Jana Sena said on Wednesday.
Despite all this, one doubts whether it will fetch any extra mileage to the Jana Sena or the BJP!
