Former Union minister and BJP national general secretary Daggubati Purandeshwari has made it clear that that the party or the Centre has not been helping YSR Congress party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy escape the CBI cases pending against him.
In a media interview, Purandeshwari said the BJP believed in the concept of allowing the law take its own course.
“Union home minister Amit Shah and BJP national president J P Nadda have always said the Centre would not interfere in the CBI cases,” he said.
She asserted that the Centre had never asked the CBI to either stop the prosecution or delay the process in case of Jagan’s cases.
“The case will go on as per the procedure,” she said.
Reacting to Jagan’s statement that the YSRC was targeting at winning 175 out of 175 assembly seats in Andhra, Purandeshwari said the BJP could also claim it would win 175 seats.
“But one should be practical and make frank assessment as to how many seats one would win. As far as BJP is concerned, we shall discuss it within the party and work out the action plan,” she said.
The BJP general secretary admitted that it would be difficult for the BJP to grow strongly in the state.
“All said and done, the TDP is a strong party with good number of leaders. But the BJP can also make an impact. It is not impossible to come to power, if we adopt right strategies at right time, as we had done in Manipur and UP,” she said.
On whether the BJP would have any alliance with the TDP, Purandeshwari said the alliances would be decided by the top leadership of the party and not at the local level.
“At present, our focus is on strengthening the party at the grassroots level. Right now, we have an alliance with the Jana Sena Party and it will continue in future, too,” she said.
