It is an open secret in Rayalaseema region that the Bhuma family has grown politically because of its faction background.
Though late Bhuma Nagi Reddy gave up faction politics, his daughter Akhila Priya is allegedly following the faction route to retain her hold in Nandyal and Allagadda constituencies.
It was evident from the way Akhila’s own grandfather Bhuma Narayana Reddy lodged a complaint with the police stating that Akhila’s husband Bhargav Ram and brother Jagath Vikhyath Reddy had threatened to kill him.
The Nandyal police have booked a case against the accused under Section 448, 506 and 509 of Indian Penal Code and are investigating the case. After making due verification, they might even arrest Akhila’s husband and brother.
The war in the Bhuma family is about the post of Vijaya Dairy chairman, for which elections are due in December. Since 1995, Narayana Reddy had been the chairman of Vijaya Dairy and since majority of the directors are his followers, he had been virtually dominating the dairy industry in Nandyal.
However, sources said Akhila has been bringing pressure on Narayana Reddy to step down from the chairman post and give it to Jagath Vikhyath Reddy.
There were allegations that Akhila group had held some of the directors as captive, so that they would not attend the managing committee meeting of the dairy last month.
In the process, there were arguments between Narayana Reddy and Akhila group a few days ago. Her husband and brother allegedly threatened to eliminate Narayana Reddy so as to capture the Vijaya Dairy chairman post.
Fearing threat to his life, Narayana Reddy lodged a complaint with the Nandyal police on Tuesday. So far, there is no response from Akhila group.
