It has been exactly 25 years since present TDP president and former CM N Chandrababu Naidu was sacked from the TDP by its founder-president and former CM N T Rama Rao.
The episode of back-stabbing of the legendary actor by his own son-in-law began unfolding in the third week of August, as Naidu who returned to Hyderabad to Visakhapatnam after hatching the conspiracy to dethrone NTR from power on the pretext of Lakshmi Parvathi taking up the party reins.
Naidu and his gang of four (popularly referred to as Dushta Chatushtayam) – Kotagiri Vidyadhar Rao, P Ashok Gajapathi Raju, T Devender Goud and A Madhava Reddy started consolidating the TDP MLAs and brainwashed them to revolt against NTR.
After all their threats and blackmailing of NTR failed, Naidu pulled off the coup and on August 25, 1995, NTR had sacked him and his four accomplices from the primary membership of the TDP.
“I have expelled the following five persons from the primary membership of the TDP with effect from August 25, 1995. By virtue of their expulsion, they ceased to be the members of the Telugu Desam Legislature Party,” NTR said in the letter.
But within two days, things had changed completely as more and more MLAs had joined the Naidu’s camp at Hotel Viceroy, the seat of the conspiracy. What happened at the Viceroy Hotel on August 27th, 1995 remains in the history forever.
